On July 1, 2014 ILAN inaugurated its new adult day center in Haifa. A major portion of the $3 million raised to build the center came from American Friends of ILAN, including significant individual gifts from the Blaustein Family Trust and the Fred Loewinsohn Trust. The center is dedicated to the memory of Myriam Loewenstein, who founded ILAN’s branch in Haifa and managed it for many years. Members of Mrs. Loewenstein’s family participated in the inauguration ceremony, as did representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Welfare and Social Services and the City of Haifa. Henceforward, the center will be known as “Beit Myriam.”

The new 4,000-square-foot center – which replaces a building that could no longer meet the growing demands on ILAN’s services for disabled adults – provides paramedical and social services, including social support, occupational and physical therapy, enrichment and social activities, and recreation. The center will employ a multidisciplinary professional team, in addition to dozens of ILAN volunteers.

Beit Myriam is one of three day centers that are slated for expansion.  ILAN is also constructing new buildings in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.  View the video to learn more about these centers, and to see highlights of the opening day ceremony in Haifa in July.
