Donations

Since 1985, the American Friends of ILAN has provided support for ILAN’s activities in Israel.  Am-ILAN has funded summer camps, sports centers, and education and enrichment programs.  American Friends have donated money to help needy families purchase equipment necessary for their loved one’s rehabilitation.  They have purchased a specially outfitted minibus to transport disabled persons from their homes to medical treatments, to sport and social activities, and to therapeutic and occupational centers.  Every year, Am-ILAN participates in the juried Judaica Crafts Show sponsored by Bet Am Shalom Synagogue in White Plains, New York, and sells handiwork and art produced in ILAN’s creative workshops.

Unveiling the Name of the Beit Myriam in Haifa

In recent years, the American Friends of ILAN have focused their fundraising efforts on three capital projects: the renovation and expansion of the sports center in Haifa, where Paralympic medalist Inbal Pizaro trains and mentors young swimmers; construction of a new adult day care center in Jerusalem; and the relocation of the adult day care center in Haifa to a larger facility.  The 4,000-square-foot Haifa center, dedicated to the memory of Myriam Loewenstein, who founded ILAN’s branch in Haifa and managed it for many years, opened in July 2014.  At its inauguration, the new center was named “Beit Myriam.”

The emergence of ILAN’s adult day care program is of particular interest to the American Friends.  Recognizing the need for a continuation of care beyond childhood, ILAN has established five facilities that provide disabled adults − who might otherwise spend their days at home, bored and alone − with nutritious meals, social services, physical and occupational therapy, enrichment and educational activities, and opportunities for social interaction.

Friends Tours

ILAN is always happy to welcome its American Friends to Israel and give them an inside look at the work that ILAN is doing to assist disabled children and adults.  If you would like to visit an ILAN facility and talk with staff, volunteers, and handicapped persons whom ILAN serves, please contact Am-ILAN.  We will be happy to connect you with colleagues in Israel who can arrange a tour.
